SEQ Water Saver Rebate.
NEW WATER SAVING STRATEGY NEARS $100 MILLION
A massive $97 million package to help South East Queenslanders conserve more water – enough to fill 17 Olympic-size swimming pools a day – has been unveiled by Premier Peter Beattie.
The centrepiece of the package is $87 million in new rebates for installing rainwater tanks, converting to dual flush toilets, buying water-efficient washing machines, taps and showerheads, and installing grey water recycling systems.
As well, the Queensland Government is contributing $10 million to build a new Smart Water Research Facility at Griffith University.
“The rebates will be available to more than 1.3 million households across South East Queensland and will increase their water efficiency,” Mr Beattie said.
“Available from July 1st, the SEQ Home Water Saver Strategy features incentives for homeowners, businesses and government.
“These are new components of the South-East Queensland Water Plan and will both save water and save money.”
Today’s announcement is a $67 million boost to the $20 million water audit program announced in April. It featured subsidies to help pay for household water audits, repairs and retrofitting of water-saving devices, along with assistance for businesses to complete their water management plans.
